What is Parenting Support?
Parenting support focuses on helping parents develop effective strategies to manage their children's behavior, improve family dynamics, and foster a positive home environment. It views the family as a system, where each member's actions and behaviors impact the others.
By working together, families can learn to communicate more effectively, resolve conflicts constructively, and build stronger bonds.

While family therapy focuses on the entire family system, parenting support specifically addresses the needs and concerns of parents. It helps parents develop strategies to manage their children's behavior and improve family dynamics.
The duration of parenting support varies depending on the family's needs and goals. Some families may benefit from a few sessions, while others may require longer-term support. We'll discuss your specific needs and develop a plan together during our initial consultation.
Ideally, both parents participate in most sessions. However, there may be times when individual sessions or sessions with specific family members are beneficial. We can be flexible and adapt the approach as needed.
It's not uncommon for some parents to be hesitant about seeking support. We can discuss ways to address their concerns and encourage their participation. Sometimes, even starting with the parent who is willing can create positive shifts in the family dynamic.
Many insurance plans cover parenting support. It's best to check with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage and benefits. It would typically fall under “Family Therapy”. I'm also happy to provide you with the necessary documentation for insurance reimbursement.
Parenting support can be beneficial for families with children of all ages, from young children to adolescents. I have experience working with families with diverse needs and developmental stages.
If your family is in crisis, please reach out to me immediately. I will do my best to schedule you for a session as soon as possible. You can also contact the San Diego Crisis Hotline at (888) 724-7240 or 911 for immediate support.
Come prepared to openly share your concerns and goals for parenting support. It can be helpful to think about specific challenges you're facing and what you hope to achieve through support.
I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Late cancellations may be subject to a fee.
